Empowering Farmers, Transforming Agriculture
Welcome to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Jammu, a premier agricultural extension center dedicated to advancing farming practices and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in the Jammu district. Established in 1992 under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), KVK Jammu operates as a grassroots institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge agricultural research and practical, on-the-ground implementation. We strive to:
- Disseminate Innovative Agricultural Technologies: Through frontline demonstrations and on-farm testing, we introduce farmers to location-specific technologies that enhance productivity and sustainability.
- Provide Vocational Training: Offering skill development programs for farmers, farm women, rural youth, and school dropouts to empower them with modern agricultural knowledge and practices.
- Serve as a Resource Hub: Acting as a knowledge center, we support public, private, and voluntary sector initiatives aimed at improving the agricultural economy of the district.
Our Team
KVK Jammu is staffed by a dedicated team comprising:
- Programme Coordinator/Senior Scientist
- Six Subject Matter Specialists
- Three Programme Assistants
- Six Ministerial Staff
This team collaborates to design and implement training programs and demonstrations that address the specific needs and challenges faced by the farming community.
Our Approach
We adopt a participatory approach in organizing training sessions and demonstrations. Each year, an action plan is developed based on thorough surveys and participatory rural appraisal activities conducted in various villages. This plan is then reviewed and finalized in the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting, ensuring that our programs are tailored to the real needs of the community.
Our extension activities emphasize the principles of “Seeing is Believing” and “Learning by Doing,” ensuring that farmers gain practical knowledge and experience.
Our Impact
Over the years, KVK Jammu has played a pivotal role in:
- Motivating farmers to establish agro-vocational enterprises.
- Developing commodity-specific villages.
- Enabling farmers to win awards at district and state levels for their innovative practices.
